The latest food thing I am working on is planning meals in advance. This way I can be sure I cook at home more. I can be sure we eat more of the foods we own. I can be sure we have a general idea of what we’ll be doing each evening. I may only do this for a month. I may only do it for the summer. I would like to always do it. but with classes each semester I get so discombobulated. Fall may cause all my plans to fail.
Right now, I have established a Yahoo calendar for meals. I m starting slowly. I put in for us to have beef every Monday, chicken every Tuesday, pork every Wednesday. I have planned for leftovers of any type on two nights a week. Leftover night allows flexibility for eating out as well. If we do not have appropriate meal stuff leftover, we can order in or go somewhere else for dinner. Since we eat a lot of spaghetti and chili, I have planned one of those each week, too. I have also alloted one night for “ethnic” fare. Which at our house means anything from taco night to home cooked Chinese to whatever strikes my fancy.
I can add in specific side dishes based on what I get at the co-op each week. I have already scheduled in to have salads with spaghetti and chili, since both of those are kind of light on veggies. I am figuring we will eat salad twice a week, so I have randomly inserted salad into some other slots just for May so far. A few meals, the ones that are coming up soonish, I already know what I want to do with that piece of meat and already have some side dish ideas to go with some of those.
I am not used to Yahoo calendar yet. Sunday was the first time I ever used it. I tried to arrange the settings so that anyone can look at my meal plans. I am not sure if I set it up correctly. And, the calendar may not be the best way to organize this. If anyone knows a better program to use, I am eager to learn! Feel free to toss me any advice you have.
This is the URL that yahoo gave me to let other people see my calendar:
If it fails, PLEASE let me know!
