Well, by dinner we were well underway in getting rid of said parasites.
My children were scratching their heads. Upon close investigation, both of the little ones had head lice! OMG That is a huge amount of work to get rid of. I checked the teenager and the husband and didn’t find anything. The husband and the teenager checked me and didn’t find anything. But I was paranoid. I mean, I had removed actual living crawling nasty creepy little bugs from the hair of my children! I almost clawed myself bloody from psychosomatically feeling them crawling on my own head.
So, I took the shears to hubby and my ten year old. They each have only half an inch of hair left. My daughter has a modified bowl cut that doesn’t even cover her little ears. My hair is already fairly short and I can’t cut it any shorter myself. I am not going to a salon with the possibility of bugs on my head. So I left my hair uncut. I left the teenager’s uncut too. But I feel a bit torn about that one. He wears his hair long and I am worried. But he didn’t itch or have anything I could see as evidence. I bought two bottles of lice killing shampoo and spent the day washing everyone in the house. Even those of us who didn’t appear to have any lice.
Washing all that hair and cutting off so much of it is still not enough. I also had to wash four beds worth of sheets and pillows and blankets and stuffed animals. That took hours and hours and hours! I was up almost all night long Sunday. I have seen spray that you can use on your furniture for killing lice, but I couldn’t find any at the drugstore. I am worried about sitting on the couches and letting the kids sleep in their beds. I did put them to bed though. I flipped their mattresses over and put fresh sheets on them. I sent them to bed without pillows because theirs weren’t through drying yet when bedtime rolled around.
Only one week of school left. I wish it had happened after school was over. My daughter wondered if she should let her teacher know about it. I told her no. I am calling the school to let them know anonymously though. The best thing I can think of about this whole situation is that the kids haven’t been over to any of their friend’s houses lately or to their Nana’s. I would hate to have to call somebody’s mother and tell them my kid probably gave their kid head lice. Or to have to talk to my mother-in-law about it. That woman is a clean freak.
So, anyway. Sunday sucked. I never ever want to go through that shit again.
